Questions about AC cleaning
How do I know my AC needs cleaning?
The clearest signs are weak cold airflow, a damp or musty smell when the unit runs, dripping water from the indoor unit, and dust specks or black marks blowing from the vents. If a long time has passed since the last clean, a check alone is a good reason to call.
What is the difference between cleaning a split and a central AC?
A split unit has two separate parts, indoor and outdoor, cleaned one at a time in each room. A central system has one main air-handling unit connected to ducts and vents throughout the building, and cleaning covers the main unit and the vents. Tell us your type when you call and we agree on the details.
Does the self-clean function on my AC replace manual cleaning?
No, it does not. Some units carry a self-clean split AC function that dries the inside of the unit to reduce moisture, but it does not remove dust that has built up on the coil or the fan drum. Manual cleaning of the coil, fan and drain line is still needed regardless of that function.
Can I clean the AC filter myself?
The mesh filter in many split units can be removed and washed at home. However, cleaning internal parts such as the coil and fan goes further than what a self-clean split AC cycle does, and it needs a different approach that protects the fine fins from damage. What affects the cost of AC cleaning?
The cost depends on the AC type, how easy it is to reach, the size of the unit and its condition. A concealed unit fixed in the ceiling is different from an open window AC, and a unit that has not been cleaned for a long time may take more work. What should I check after the AC has been cleaned?
After cleaning, run the AC and check that the airflow is stronger than before, there is no damp smell when it starts, and no water drips from the indoor unit. Also confirm the filter is back in place correctly, and listen to the unit in the first few minutes to make sure it runs normally.
How do I know my AC needs cleaning?
If you notice the cool air is weaker than before or you smell something unpleasant when it runs, the AC needs cleaning. Call us then and we will come to clean it.
Does cleaning the AC actually improve its efficiency?
