What does extractor-fan cleaning cover?
The extractor fan in your kitchen or bathroom pulls out hot air, moisture and cooking vapour, and every cycle leaves a thin layer of grease behind. Fine dust drawn in with the air sticks to that grease on the blades, the inner housing and the duct that runs behind the fan. Over time the air passages narrow, the motor works harder, and the fan loses most of its pulling power.
Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district and where the extractor fan is, whether in the kitchen, the bathroom or somewhere else, and we agree a time that suits you.
These are the parts the cleaning goes through in each extractor fan, depending on where it sits and its condition when we arrive.
- The fan blades
We remove the blades and clean off the layers of grease and dust stuck to them, because build-up on the blades throws the balance off and causes the vibrating noise you hear.
- The inner housing
We wipe the inner wall of the metal or plastic housing, which traps airborne grease and becomes a rough surface that slows the airflow past it.
- Front cover and grille
We take off the cover and the protection grille and clear the caked dust from them, because a blocked grille reduces the air entering the fan before it even starts pulling.
- The rear duct
We clean the short duct running from the fan to the wall opening, as grease accumulating there narrows the cross-section and raises resistance on the motor.
- The external vent opening
We check and clean the outlet in the external wall, because a vent blocked by dust or a stuck back-draught flap stops air from leaving and puts pressure on the fan.
- Motor body exterior
We wipe the outer part of the motor to remove the dust resting on it, since the motor heats up faster when a layer of insulating dust sits over it.

- 3
We agree a time
We settle on a time that works for you, and you clear anything stored under or around the fan so the area is open when we arrive.

Questions about Extractor-fan cleaning
How do I know my extractor fan needs cleaning?
The first sign is weaker suction, the fan runs but you feel little airflow. Another is a humming or vibrating sound that was not there before, usually from grease on the blades throwing the balance off. If cooking smells or moisture linger in the room after the fan has been running, that is a clear sign it is no longer doing its job.
Does cleaning just the front cover fix the problem?
The cover and grille are what the eye sees first and what collects visible dust, but the heavier grease sits on the blades, the inner housing and the rear duct you cannot see. Cleaning the cover alone improves the look without restoring the suction, so we ask what you notice when you call to agree on what your fan actually needs.
What should I prepare before you arrive to clean the kitchen fan?
Clear pots and anything on the worktop below or beside the fan, and if the fan is over the hob it helps to cover it. Tell us if the fan is in a tight or high spot so we can prepare for that.
Does a bathroom extractor fan need the same cleaning as a kitchen one?
A bathroom fan is not exposed to cooking grease the way a kitchen fan is, but it works in a damp environment so dust sticks to it with moisture and mould can form on the inner housing and duct. The dirt is different but the parts that need cleaning are similar, and you tell us where the fan is when you call so we account for that.
What changes the scope of work for extractor-fan cleaning?
The main factor is how long the fan has gone since its last clean, as old hardened layers take more work than fresh build-up. The length of the rear duct matters too, since some are short and others run a longer distance inside the wall. The fan's location and how easy it is to reach also play a part. We go over these details with you when you call.
