What does hood filter cleaning cover?
The hood filter is the part that stands between kitchen air and the fan. In kitchens that rely on daily cooking with oil and clarified butter, grease layers build up on the metal mesh until they seal it off, forcing the extractor to work harder and pull less air. The grease does not stay in the mesh alone; over time it runs down onto the frame and body, leaving a sticky film that ordinary wiping cannot shift.
We start by hearing what you notice in your hood, then we remove the filter and clear the grease from the mesh, the frame and the handle. Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us the filter type and your district, and we agree a time.
These are the parts the cleaning goes through in the filter and its surroundings, depending on the filter type and how much grease has built up.
- The metal mesh
We take out the mesh and remove solidified grease from its fine pores, because blocked pores are the direct cause of weak suction.
- The filter frame
The metal frame that holds the mesh collects sticky grease and caked dust; we clean it because leaving it dirty would put grime back onto the mesh.
- The filter handle
The handle is what you touch when fitting and removing the filter; oil, moisture and grime collect on it, so we clear it during the clean.
- Carbon filter if fitted
Some hoods use a carbon filter alongside the mesh to absorb smells; we check its condition and explain your options when you call.
- The cavity and filter rails
The cavity where the filter sits collects dripped grease; we clean the cavity and rails because leaving grease there would soil the filter the moment it goes back in.
- The inner face of the hood
The inner face of the hood facing the hob receives grease and steam daily; we wipe it in a way that suits its material, whether steel, painted metal or glass.

We agree a time
We settle on a time that suits you; in the kitchen, clear the hob and leave enough space to reach the hood comfortably.

Questions about Hood filter cleaning
How do I know my hood filter needs cleaning rather than replacing?
A metal mesh filter is cleaned, not replaced in most cases; if it looks dark and sticky and the suction is weak, cleaning is the right step. A carbon filter, on the other hand, loses its ability to absorb smells over time and cannot be cleaned. We check your filter type and explain the difference when you call.
The grease in my filter is hardened and does not come off with water, how is it removed?
Cooking grease layers on the mesh and hardens over time and heat until it forms a solid film. Removing it needs soaking and treatment suited to that kind of deposit, which is different from a wipe with water. Details are agreed when you call based on the condition of the filter.
Do I need to take the hood off the wall before the filter is cleaned?
No, the filter in most domestic hoods unclips from below without removing the hood from the wall. The cavity and rails inside are cleaned in place. If your hood is an unusual type, tell us the model or send a photo on WhatsApp.
What should I check after the hood filter is cleaned?
Switch the hood to its highest setting and hold your hand under the filter: you should feel a clear pull of air from across the whole mesh, not just one side. Also look through the mesh visually; you should be able to see light through it without obstruction. Any lingering weakness in suction is worth reporting when you call.
My hood is old and the filter has rust on the corners, can it still be cleaned?
Rust on the frame of an old metal filter is common in environments with heat, moisture and grease. Cleaning removes the built-up grease but does not treat existing rust. Tell us the condition of the filter when you call and we explain what can be done and what to expect afterwards.
