What does carpet stain removal cover?
A fresh spill sits on top of the fibres for a short time, but once it dries the dyes and sugars seep into the wool, nylon or acrylic fibre and grip the fibre wall from inside. At that point scrubbing with water alone cannot shift it, and it may spread the stain or damage the pile.
Call or WhatsApp us, tell us the type of stain, its size and your district, and we agree a time that works for you. In most cases the stain is treated in place without needing to lift the carpet.
These are the steps a stain treatment goes through, depending on its type, age and the nature of the carpet fibres.
- Stain and fibre check
We start by identifying the stain's source, age and the fibre type, because treating a coffee stain differs from treating a dye or ink stain.
- Containing the stain
Before any treatment we stop the stain spreading to the surrounding fibres, a step that is often missed at home and causes the mark to grow wider.
- Fibre and base treatment
We clean the fibres from the face down to the textile base, because old stains seep into the base and resurface if they are only treated from the top.
- Colour and dye stains
Crayon colours, pomegranate juice and turmeric leave a dye in the fibres that differs from ordinary liquid stains in composition, and treating them takes longer with separate steps.
- Grease and oil stains
Grease repels water and clings to the fibres differently from drink stains, so it needs a method that breaks down the fat before lifting it off the fibres.
- Post-drying check
Some stains look gone when wet and reappear as the carpet dries, so we tell you what to check once the carpet is fully dry.

Questions about Carpet stain removal
My stain is weeks old, can it still be removed?
An old stain is harder than a fresh one because its dyes have bonded to the fibre wall, but it usually responds to treatment. Age is not the only factor: the fibre type, the nature of the stain and what has been tried on it at home all matter. Tell us all of that when you call and we can assess it.
I tried water and salt on the stain and it spread, what now?
Rubbing with water pushes the stain into the surrounding fibres rather than lifting it, especially with juice and sweet drinks. Leave it as it is now, do not add anything else to it, and tell us what was tried on it when you call so we can factor that into the treatment.
What makes a stain harder to remove?
Four things affect how hard a stain is to shift: its source such as grease, dye or coffee tannin; how long ago it happened; the fibre type of the carpet whether wool, nylon or acrylic; and what was done to it at home before calling. Those four together are what we ask about when you get in touch.
How do I prepare the stained area before the appointment?
Move light furniture away from the area and keep it clear of foot traffic. Do not place anything on the stain or rub it again. If there is heavy furniture on or near it, mention that when we agree the time so we can prepare.
What should I check once the carpet has dried?
Check the stain colour in daylight once the fibres are fully dry, because some marks vanish when wet and return on drying if they have reached the base. Also check that the pile colour in the treated area looks even with the rest of the carpet, and let us know if you notice anything.
