What does Persian carpet cleaning cover?
A Persian carpet is hand-knotted from wool or silk threads dyed with pigments whose stability varies from one piece to the next. The fine dust settles deep between the knots near the foundation, dulling the colours and weighing down the pile long before you notice it from a distance.
Tell us the size of the carpet and what you see in it, whether that is heavy dust, faded areas or a dry mark on the edge. Call or message us on WhatsApp with your district and we agree a time.
These are the stages Persian carpet cleaning goes through, depending on the carpet's condition and what you notice in it.
- Thread and colour check
Before washing we check the thread type and how stable the dyes are, because some natural dyes can bleed when wet if that is not taken into account.
- Dust removal from the knots
Dust packs down near the foundation of the knots and does not come out with surface wiping, so the pile is loosened before washing to release what has settled deep.
- Face and back washing
We wash both the face and the back because dust settles on both sides, and the textile backing holds moisture if it is not treated fully.
- Fringes and woven borders
The linen fringes at each end yellow over time and tangle together, and we treat them in a way that suits their texture without breaking the threads.
- Dye and residue rinse
A thorough rinse clears whatever remains in the threads after washing, because any residue left in the wool attracts dust again and speeds up soiling.
- Air drying
A Persian carpet needs to dry in open air away from direct sun, because intense heat burns out the dyes and stiffens the fibres.

Questions about Persian carpet cleaning
How do I know my Persian carpet needs washing and not just vacuuming?
When you run your hand over the pile and feel an unusual roughness, or tap it gently and see dust rise, the dust has settled deep between the knots and a vacuum will not reach it. If the colours have also gone duller in the middle than at the edges, washing is the next step.
My Persian carpet has vivid colours; will washing dull them or is that a risk?
Natural dyes used in many Persian carpets vary in stability compared with modern chemical dyes, so we do not begin washing until we test how well each colour holds. Correct washing brings the colours back rather than dulling them, because it is the layer of built-up dust that was hiding them.
What should I do before you take the carpet away?
Move furniture off the carpet before we arrive so we can lift and roll it without difficulty. If there is an old mark on it, do not try to treat it before the appointment; just tell us where it is and how long it has been there so we can take it into account.
What makes Persian carpet cleaning different from other carpet types?
A Persian carpet is made from dense threads tied by hand around a cotton or linen foundation, and the knot count per centimetre determines how tight the weave is. That density means dust hides deeper than in a machine-made carpet, the linen fringes need different handling, and drying takes longer to make sure no moisture stays trapped in the foundation.
When does the carpet come back after washing?
The return time depends on the size of the carpet, its condition and how deeply the dust had settled, and that is confirmed after inspection. When it comes back, check that the pile lies flat, the colours are even, and the fringes are clean with no broken threads.
