What does chiffon curtain washing cover?
Chiffon is sheer and light, and that lightness is exactly what makes it vulnerable. The fine dust that fills the air settles between its threads without changing the colour much, so the curtain looks clean when it is not. What damages chiffon most is not dirt but the wrong wash: too much heat or rubbing thins the threads and causes the fabric to stretch or shrink.
We start by hearing what you notice about your curtains, then we handle the removal, the wash and the rehang. Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district, the number of curtains and their length, and we agree a time.
These are the parts and stages the work goes through, depending on the condition of your curtains and what you notice in them.
- Fabric check before washing
We look at the condition of the chiffon weave before starting, because old stains or stretched threads need a different approach from a curtain that has simply not been washed for a long time.
- Dry dust removal
The curtain is gently shaken to remove the dry dust layer before wetting, because wetting dust first sets it into the threads and makes it harder to remove.
- Stain and yellowing treatment
Stains are treated according to their type, because yellowing from sun exposure near the window is removed differently from grease or drink marks.
- Pleats and heading tape
The pleats at the top of the curtain and the heading tape collect more dust and spray residue than the rest of the fabric, so they get extra attention during the wash.
- Rinse and drying
The fabric is rinsed until nothing is left from the wash, then dried in a way that does not stretch the chiffon or break its threads, because excessive heat drying changes the shape of the fabric.
- Rehang and check
The curtain goes back on its hooks and is spread across a few metres, and the pleats and the hem are checked, because any stretch in the fabric shows clearly once it hangs.

Questions about Chiffon curtain wash
My chiffon looks clean, does it still need washing?
Yes. Chiffon is sheer and its threads are fine and close together, so fine dust settles between them without visibly changing how the curtain looks. In the dry air that layer builds quietly, and you may notice a change in smell or a slight roughness in the fabric before you see any colour difference.
Why does chiffon stretch after washing and how is that avoided?
Chiffon threads are light and react to heat and tension. If the curtain is washed in hot water, wrung hard or pulled while wet, the fabric stretches and does not recover. That is why these curtains need a wash suited to their light weight, and a different drying approach from heavier fabrics.
My chiffon curtains touch the floor, does that change how they are washed?
The part that touches the floor collects more dust and residue than the rest of the curtain, and it is prone to yellowing and staining from moisture and constant contact. We ask about this when you call so we can give the hem the attention it needs.
Do I need to take the curtains down before you arrive?
If you can take them off their hooks before the appointment that makes things easier. If the rail or fixings are hard to reach, tell us when you call and we will agree on what suits you.
What affects the price of washing chiffon curtains?
The price depends on the number of curtains, their length and width, and whether there are stains or yellowing that need extra treatment. The height of the rail and ease of access also affect the details. We agree the price after you describe your curtains to us.
