What does marble restoration cover?
Marble is a hard stone but brittle under impact. A chipped edge or a crack that runs through the slab cannot be fixed with polishing; the marble itself has to be restored first. The thermal expansion and contraction of summer heat makes old or poorly bonded marble more prone to cracking.
Tell us what you can see and where in the home it is, whether that is the floor, the kitchen, a bathroom or the stairs. We agree a time with you and treat the damage before it spreads.
These are the parts and faults that restoration addresses, depending on the type of damage, where it is and the condition of the marble.
- Hairline cracks
A filler compound goes into hairline cracks that run through the slab face, stopping them from widening and hiding them from view.
- Deep chips
A deep chip removes part of the stone's body; it is rebuilt with a compound matched to the colour and texture of the marble, then sanded level.
- Broken edges and corners
Floor slab edges and kitchen counter corners are the most exposed spots for breakage; they are shaped and smoothed after filling to restore their original line.
- Detached or lifted slab
A slab that has lifted or partly detached is reset after the base is cleaned and the right bonding material is applied underneath.
- Joints and grout lines
The joints between slabs crack or crumble over time and let moisture in; they are cleaned out and filled afresh.
- Surface levelling before polishing
After cracks are filled, the repaired areas are sanded level with the surrounding surface, which is what makes any polishing afterwards effective.

Questions about Marble restoration
How do I know my marble needs restoration and not just polishing?
If you can see a crack running through the slab, a chip that has removed part of an edge, or a slab that moves underfoot or lifts at one side, those are structural faults that polishing cannot fix. Dullness or fine surface scratches without any break are a polishing matter.
Can old marble with several cracks be restored?
Several cracks can be treated in the same job, but the number, depth and width of the cracks affects the scope of the work and what is agreed. Tell us what you see and where it is, and we agree on the details when you call.
What should I prepare before the marble restoration day?
Clear furniture, rugs and objects placed on or next to the damaged marble. If the marble is in a bathroom or kitchen, move away any tools or items close by. Leaving the area clear makes access easier and allows the full extent of the damage to be assessed.
After the restoration, what should I check before you leave?
Check that the filled areas are level with the surrounding slab, that the filler colour is close to the marble in natural light, and that any slabs that were moving are now firm. Raise anything you notice with us before we finish.
A crack in my marble runs across several slabs, can all of it be restored?
A crack that crosses slab joints is treated along its full length, because treating only part of it leaves the other end free to widen. The scope is agreed after seeing the area, so describe what you can see when you call.
