What does stair marble polishing cover?
Stair marble faces continuous traffic in every direction, and the repeated friction from shoes leaves fine scratches in the stone's surface that water and cleaning products cannot remove. The sandy dust speeds this up, because its particles act like fine sandpaper on the surface with every step taken.
Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district, the number of steps and what you notice, whether scratches, dullness or uneven sheen, and we agree a time that suits you.
These are the parts the work goes through on the stairs, depending on the condition of the marble and what you notice on the treads.
- The tread surface
We grind the surface of each tread to remove the fine scratches built up from friction, then polish it until the outer layer of the stone is smooth and even again.
- The front nosing edge
The front edge wears fastest because it takes the direct impact of each step, and we treat it with care because its curved profile is different from the flat tread surface.
- The riser panel
The riser between each pair of treads collects dust and marks in a spot that is hard to reach daily, and we polish it along with the rest so the finish is consistent throughout.
- Side cheeks and panels
The side cheeks show clearly from below or on entering, and marks or scratches on them affect the overall appearance, so we polish them when they need it.
- Corners and angle breaks
The corners and junctions between the tread and the wall marble collect grime and look darker than the rest of the surface, and we attend to them so the corner looks clean and bright.
- Post-polish surface check
When we finish we look at the treads with you in side light to check that the sheen is even and the lines are gone, and any point you notice is dealt with on the spot.

Questions about Stair marble polishing
How do I know my stair marble needs polishing and not just cleaning?
If you wipe a tread with a soft cloth and the sheen does not come back, the surface has lost its polished layer and it is not just a matter of dirt. Fine lines visible in side light and uneven sheen from one tread to the next are clear signs that the stairs need polishing.
Is polishing stair marble different from polishing a marble floor?
Yes, stairs have curved front edges, riser panels and multiple joining angles, and each part is treated differently from a flat surface. A room floor is one open plane, while stairs have more details and some parts are harder to reach during the work.
What should I prepare before stair marble polishing?
Remove any carpet or mat on the treads, clear ornaments and objects from the staircase, and leave a clear path from the top to the bottom. Let us know if a side or back staircase is enclosed by walls that narrow the working space.
One of my marble treads has a crack, can it be polished with the rest?
A crack needs to be assessed before polishing. If it is shallow and narrow it may be dealt with as part of the polishing work, but if it runs deeper then marble restoration comes before polishing. Tell us what you see when you call and we agree on the right step.
How soon can we walk on the stairs after polishing?
The polished surface needs time to dry and set before full use. We tell you when we finish, based on the type of marble and the treatment done, and it is best to avoid shoes on it until we say it is ready.
