Starting a build and want it protected from pests before the foundations are poured? Treating the soil at this stage protects the structure from within, before the walls close.

What the service includes

What does pre-construction treatment cover?

When soil is treated after a building is finished, the work hits obstacles: poured floors, completed walls and finishes all block access to the layers where pests move. Before the pour, the soil is open and the foundations are exposed, and the treatment reaches the depth it needs to.

To arrange the treatment, tell us the location and district of your project and how far the build has progressed, and we agree a time that fits before the pour.

These are the areas and surfaces the treatment goes through, depending on the stage of the build and the layout of the site.

  • The topsoil layer

The topsoil layer across the full foundation area is treated, as it is the first thing pests cross on their way up into the structure built above.

  • The foundation excavation perimeter

The sides of the foundation pit are treated before the concrete is poured, as this edge is the route many ground-dwelling pests take to reach building materials.

  • Pipe and conduit routes

Pipes pass through openings in the soil and fresh concrete, and these openings form lasting entry routes for pests if they are not treated before sealing.

  • Base of load-bearing walls

The soil at the base of load-bearing walls is treated before the masonry goes up, as direct contact between damp soil and building materials creates a suitable environment for certain pests.

  • Edges of the ground slab

The joint between the ground slab and the wall is a weak point in any building, and it is treated before the pour to close this route from the start.

  • Temporary material storage areas

Building materials stored on bare soil attract certain pests and shelter them, so the soil beneath is treated when the materials are moved, before the pour.

How to order

Four steps, and done

  1. 1

Call or message us on WhatsApp

  2. 2

    Tell us about your project

Tell us which district the project is in, what type of build it is, how far the work has progressed, and whether the foundations are still open.

  3. 3

    We agree a time

We settle on a time before the pour takes place, and you ensure the treatment area is clear of workers and related materials on the day.

  4. 4

    Treatment and check

The soil and identified surfaces are treated according to the stage of the build, and after finishing you check that the areas you told us about are covered before the build continues.

Questions

Questions about Pre-construction pest treatment

When exactly should I request pre-construction treatment?

The ideal time is after excavation and soil levelling are done and before the ground slab is poured or the masonry starts. At that stage the soil is fully exposed and the foundation zones are reachable without obstacles. If some stages are already finished, tell us where you are and we agree on what is possible.

Which pests does soil treatment before building target?

Termites are the primary target, as they live in soil and feed on the timber and cellulose materials in building structures. The treatment also targets ground ants and certain beetle species that breed in soil and find their way into stored building materials.

Do I need pre-construction treatment if my site soil is sandy?

Yes, and the dry sandy soil common in many places does not mean it is free of pests. Termites adapt to sandy soil and move through it easily, and some species build their tunnels in light soil faster than in heavy soil. The treatment is carried out to suit the soil type at your site.

What should I prepare at the site before treatment?

Move stored materials stacked on the soil to be treated, pause any digging or backfilling in the area on the treatment day, and inform the contractor of the visit to arrange the movement of workers. Tell us in advance if some foundation areas have already been poured.

Is pre-construction treatment alone enough for the building's lifetime?

Pre-construction treatment places a barrier in the soil and foundations before they are closed, and that is its ideal timing because access is complete. Even so, how long that barrier lasts varies with soil type and site conditions, which is why agreeing a pest-control contract for the building after it is finished is a sensible follow-up.
