What does pool filter maintenance cover?
A pool filter traps dirt and suspended particles from the water day after day, and fine airborne dust adds to the load. When a sand or cartridge filter fills up with what it has caught, the pressure on the pump rises and the water loses its clarity even though the unit is still running.
Tell us what you notice in your pool and which district you are in, and we agree a suitable time to inspect, clean or service the filter. The same team also handles pool disinfection and pool water treatment if you need either of those.
These are the parts the work goes through, depending on the type of filter, its condition and what you notice in your pool.
- The sand filter
We inspect the sand filter tank from the inside and check the sand distribution and condition, because compacted or worn sand loses its ability to trap fine particles.
- Backwash valve
We check the multiport valve that controls water direction during backwashing, since a damaged or poorly sealed valve can let sand through or reduce cleaning effectiveness.
- The cartridge filter
We remove the cartridge and inspect its pleats for trapped dust and debris, then decide whether cleaning is enough or whether the cartridge needs replacing after extended use.
- Pump basket
We empty the pump basket and inspect its mesh, as leaves, insects and debris collect there and restrict the flow of water into the filter.
- Filter housing and connections
We check the filter body and its pipe and pump connections from the outside, looking for any leak or crack that could affect the whole filtration system.
- Pressure gauge reading
We read the pressure gauge before and after the service to confirm the pressure has returned to its normal range, which is a practical sign that the filter is working as it should.
Four steps, and done

Call or message us on WhatsApp

Tell us what you notice
Describe what is happening: is the pressure high, the water cloudy or the pump making a noise? Tell us the filter type if you know it and which district you are in.
- 3
We agree a time
We settle on a time that suits you. It helps to have the pool in its normal state with the pump running so we can check its performance as soon as we arrive.
- 4
Inspection and service
We inspect the filter, pump and backwash valve and carry out the necessary work, then check the pressure gauge reading with you to confirm the system is back to normal operation.

Questions about Pool filter maintenance
The pump pressure is high and the water is still cloudy, is the filter to blame?
High pressure together with cloudy water is a clear sign that the filter needs attention. In a sand filter it usually means the sand is saturated and blocking the flow, and in a cartridge filter the pleats are clogged with dust and debris. Tell us what you notice and we will work out what your filter needs.
What should I prepare before the filter maintenance appointment?
It is best to keep the pump running until the team arrives so the pressure and system performance can be checked in normal operating conditions. If the filter area is surrounded by furniture or equipment, clearing it makes the valves and connections easier to reach.
After the service, what should I expect from the pressure reading and the water clarity?
The pressure gauge reading usually drops after the filter is cleaned or serviced, which shows water is flowing more freely through the system. The water may take some time after the service to become clearer, because filtration is a gradual process.
What changes the scope of pool filter maintenance?
The work is affected by the filter type, sand or cartridge, by the pool size which determines the required flow rate, by the filter's age and how long it has been since the last service, and by how easy it is to reach the pump and valves on site.
Can the filter be serviced and the pool disinfected at the same appointment?
That is agreed when you call and explain what you need, as the details are settled with you before the appointment. The team that handles filter maintenance is the same one that provides pool disinfection and pool water treatment.
