Wall soot removal

A black layer on the kitchen wall or smoke marks above the fireplace? Soot soaks into the paint quickly, and we remove it before it sets.

What does wall soot removal cover?

Soot is not ordinary dust that wipes away with a damp cloth. Its oily particles soak into the pores of paint and plaster, and the stain yellows and spreads the longer it is left. Kitchen walls build up layers of grease and smoke from daily cooking, and living room walls near charcoal grills or gas heaters go dark from repeated smoke exposure.

Call or message us on WhatsApp, tell us your district, where the soot is and what surface you have, and we agree a time with you. We take care of the work and leave the wall clean.

These are the surfaces and parts the cleaning goes through, and the approach differs by material and how deep the soot has gone.

  • Interior paint

We start by checking the paint type and how deep the soot has gone, because matt paint absorbs grease more than gloss does, and the removal method changes accordingly.

  • Plaster and bare wall

Plaster is more porous than paint and soot penetrates deeper into it, so we treat the surface with what suits it to avoid damaging the top layer.

  • Wall tiles and ceramic

Ceramic tiles do not absorb soot, but the grout lines between them stain with grease and smoke, and we remove marks from both and bring the grout back to its colour.

  • Ceiling edges and top of wall

Smoke rises and collects where the wall meets the ceiling, and that zone carries the heaviest staining while often being missed in routine cleaning.

  • Area around stoves and heaters

The wall behind and beside the stove receives the heaviest concentration of oil spray and smoke, and we clean this area carefully because it is the main source of the soot.

  • Wall beside windows and vents

Air currents carry street smoke in and deposit it on walls near windows, leaving thin dark lines along frame edges and the wall beside them.

Questions

Questions about Wall soot removal

Does soot on my kitchen wall need cleaning or repainting?

If the stain is on the surface and has not soaked far into the paint, cleaning is usually enough. If soot has built up over a long time and fixed itself into the paint pores, or the wall has changed colour across a wide area, repainting may become the option. We assess the situation when you contact us and tell you what suits your case.

How do I know whether what is on my wall is soot and not just dust?

Dust wipes away easily with a damp cloth and leaves almost no trace. Soot leaves a greasy dark brown smear when you wipe it and does not come off with a simple wipe, because its oils stick to the surface. If you see that smear, specialised cleaning is the right step.

Is covering the furniture enough or should I clear the whole room?

Moving furniture and belongings away from the wall to be cleaned and the space around it is what helps the work and protects your things. Clearing the whole room is not usually needed, but the easier the access to the wall the more precise and thorough the work.

What should I check once the soot cleaning is done?

Check the wall in natural or bright light: look for any remaining brown or grey tint where the stain was, and see whether the paint colour is even or there is a shade difference between the cleaned area and the wall around it. If you notice anything, tell us before we leave.

What makes soot harder to remove or changes the size of the job?

The age of the stain is the main factor: old soot fixes hard into paint pores and needs deeper treatment. The surface type also matters, as plaster and matt paint are harder to clean than ceramic. The area of wall affected and whether it is above head height, needing access equipment, also change the scope of the job.
